Jenő Bory was a student at the former Royal Main Real School (graduating in 1899). It was for this reason that the former student was commissioned in 1925 to create the Heroes' Monument
The sculpture consists of a 240 cm bronze figure of a soldier standing on a 1.5-meter limestone pedestal. It depicts a young soldier, as it was erected in memory of the students who emerged from the ranks of the secondary school. Following the outbreak of World War I, several students marched directly from their classrooms to the front lines—many volunteering for military service, thus undertaking the ultimate sacrifice for their homeland.
