The cathedral had been built on the highest point of the town, Béla IV made it build in his younger age, he was crowned here as well.
In its crypt, on the lower part of the royal coffins, Béla III king and his wife, Anna of Antioch’s bodyprints can be discovered. During the Turkish reign, the former St Peter parish church was Suleiman sultan’s mosque. In front of the cathedral, in the square, the different mark on the pavement symbolizes the outline of Géza Prince’s funeral chapel.
