Pipó Tower (The Medieval Ruin Garden of the Coronation Basilica- National Memorial Place)

The most important place of the former coronation town, which has been protected by the inhabitants of Fehérvár since the beginning. Not like the Turkish; they were waiting till the Sultan left the town after they robbed out the royal graves.

In 1568 the Sultan ordered to the Beg of Buda to take away the Basilica’s gravestones because they offend the Muslim religion. This time- Louis The Great and others graves were destroyed this time. In 1601 we were successful and took back the town from the Turkish for 1 year, however it required huge sacrifice. The highest tower of the Coronation Basilica, the Pipó Tower-that was used as a powder magazine by the Turkish- exploded and ruined the most part of the building.
