Mosaic Vases, Zichy Park

Bory Jenő completed his studies as a scholarship holder of Fehérvár, and after passing his exams, he graduated as an architect engineer in 1903. He expressed his gratitude to the city through numerous works, including two huge concrete vases decorated with mosaics, created in 1921—105 years ago.

Indeed, the material of the two vases is concrete. Fitting well with his characteristic innovative art open to novelties, Bory Jenő recognized the potential inherent in concrete—which was considered a new material at the time—very early on, not only in architecture but also in the fine arts. At the end of the park, there is another work that is only partly linked to Bory Jenő's name: the monument of the 17th Honvéd Infantry Regiment, which he renovated in 1928.
