Várkörút

It is not accidental that we can find Matthias King- Mátyás király Avenue and Várkörút- Castle Round Road in the town, since walking along these we can take a stroll „around” the medieval castle.

On these ways people could have walked on foot or taken a boat 1000 years ago, since there was water in the canals which was the remain of the marshlands. These were the natural protection of the town. Along the canals, on the banksthere were promenades and bridges for the crossover.

By the demolition of the walls the town could expand to the surroundings and the main roads. By covering the canals of the „castle round” new territories and wide roads could be created. So in the 1930s an elegant line of villas was built, then in the same time by the opening towards to Zichy park,multi-storey block of flats were erected, just like the „Flat Iron House”, that was named after its triangle shape.
