Remains of the town wall at Prohászka Park

Take a glance tot he castle wall behind the trees and the bushes! Besides the Várfal park this is the other spot in the historical downtown, where the medieval town wall can be discovered on a longer section (100m) in its original height and restored condition. Béla IV had the wall surrounded the whole downtown built - a mixed masonry, mostly ashlar- after the Mongol Invasion to protect the town against the newer attacks.

Under the red roof, the Monastery bastion can be seen, its construction had started in 1601, when the town was free from the Turkish occupation for a short period. The wall joins in the Prohászka Monument with an arched wall section in the north, in the south in a three arcade-arch gate and the St Stephen Mausoleum.
