Prohászka Park

The former bishop of Fehérvár, Ottokár Prohászka gladly spent his time under the shadow of the trees in the park, who is the eponym of the grove. „The Apostle and the tutor of Hungary” was serving in the town for 22 years, his moral is preserved in the 14,2 m high Prohászka monument. The angel is holding a cross in its left hand, its pedestal is the closing pillar of the town wall. Down ont he pillare Ottokár Prohászka’s relief can be seen.

In the middle of the park we can find St Ladislaus’s bust. It was made by László Schwalm sculptor for the 850th Canonization anniversary of the knight king.

The ground level which is lower than the street level of the grove is a memento of the old time, when the castle and the town were protected by the deep marsh of the moat. Later the water was led into canal, the territory was filled up. The Várkör- Castle Round- canal has been flowing since then under the surface, however its runoff is not so much.
