The 150-year-old building is a guardian of the muses, erected by architect Ferenc Brein for his beloved, Katalin Stadler. It is well worth pausing to admire the intricate decorative details with which this residential building abounds.

Such are the towers, the lion-head decorations above the windows, and the capitals adorned with the head of Athena. Most extraordinary, however, are the statues of six female figures representing the muses on the building's facade. These sculptures personify the arts: poetry, craftsmanship, sculpture/architecture, history, dance/music, and painting. Each holds a different attribute—a parchment scroll, a spinning wheel, a book, a hammer, a lute, and a painter's palette—helping us identify which artistic discipline they honor.
